Juan Luna de San Pedro y Novicio Ancheta or also known as Juan Luna is one of the most famous painter in the Philippines and became the first recognized Filipino Artist. His paintings became known and one of his art work is the Spoliarium. Juan would be reinstated as a world-renowned artist and Peuple et Rois, his last major work, was acclaimed as the best entry to the Saint Louis World's Fair in St. Louis, MissouriBut some his paintings was destroyed during the world war.

One of his painting is the "Portrait of Pas Pardo de Tavera" but it was changed into "Portrait of a lady" because they believed that the paint is cursed because whoever owns it receive bad luck that's why they just gave it to the museum. As far as I know and as what I observed, the lady in the portrait doesn't look like Juan Luna's wife who we can see in some of the pictures. Some say that it was a Caucasian named Angela Duche who is Juan Luna's favorite model. And we all know that Juan Luna outright murdered his wife and mother-in-law and there are also some speculations that he was poisoned causing him to die.

Whatever or whoever that woman in the portrait is I just hope we won't give negative comments to it and just appreciate the amazing art work Juan Luna made, and always remember that it is also part of our country's history.
